At the British School of Costa Daurada we love languages! Alongside English (our main language of learning), Catalan and Spanish, our students begin German in Year 5 with a balance of fun and academic learning. By the end of Year 6, they complete the A1 curriculum, and in Secondary they are ready to take official Goethe Institute exams in Barcelona. German is also offered as a GCSE option in Year 10, with continued preparation for B1 and B2 levels through classes and our vibrant after-school programme.
But learning German at BSCD goes far beyond the classroom:
School Exchange Program (Year 9)
Our Year 9 students take part in a cultural exchange with our partner school, Marienschule, in Lippstadt. In spring, they welcome German students into their homes in Tarragona, sharing family and school life together. Later in the year, BSCD students travel to Germany to experience life at Marienschule, enjoy full school immersion, and explore the local region with visits to cities such as Lippstadt, Dortmund, and Münster.
Work Practice Program (Year 11)
Our Year 11 students have the unique opportunity to spend time in the town of Rüthen, at the school Friedrich-Spee-Gymnasium and the local tourism office. This hands-on work placement allows them to discover new cultural environments, gain professional experience, and practise their German in real-world settings. At the same time, BSCD also welcomes German students who carry out their own work placements in our school, enriching the exchange and giving our community the chance to interact daily with native speakers.
We are proud to offer our students genuine opportunities to connect with other countries, languages, and cultures — making German at BSCD a true gateway to the wider world!
